I'm beginning to really dislike MediaWiki. You can tell it is an old system that experienced many years of scope creep.

Semantic MediaWiki helps a lot. Adds properties and inline queries. Still need a way to improve data entry. Check out http://semantic-mediawiki.org.

Issues
- Inconsistence in markup. Sometimes you sue HTML, sometimes wiki syntax, sometimes you use wiki syntax that looks like HTML. Sometime you delineate parameters in a wiki tag by space sometimes by a pipe.
- Table markup is terrible.
- Not easy to add custom programs.
- All configuration is done via FTP.
- No user control
- Not easy to modify page template.
Desired Features
- Consistent markups
- Full control/customization of markups. (fro example ModX style snittpts and chucks).
- Ability to add custom code (i.e. embedded stargen)
- Access control systems that allows full ACL control (page, user, read/write).
- Online configuration management.
- Reasonable page templating system.
- Able to duplicate page.
