BraneStorm:Guidelines
From BraneStorm
This set of guidelines is intended to improve the overall quality of BraneStorm contributions. It is only a guideline. Feel free to be creative while respecting the works of others.

Content
All content (other than articles labeled as stories) should be written in a encyclopedia-like style.
Fact vs. Fiction
Non-fiction articles (for example an article describing a real world stellar classification system) should be labeled with the {{Non-fiction}} tag. Fictional content should not be added to these pages. If fictional content pertaining to a specific brane is needed then a brane specific article should be written.
Writing Style
Content should be written in a style appropriate for an encyclopedia. Descriptions should be clear, concise, and authoritative.
Perspective and Language
Content is intended to be a guide to a fictional universe and, therefore, should be written from the perspective of an external observer. First and second person pronouns should be avoided (i.e. I, we, you). The articles should be written in English while avoiding contested vocabulary (thusly, overly, whilst, amongst, as per, etc.). Avoid contractions (don't, can't, won't) as much as possible. Define acronyms parenthetically (example: ... the faster-than-light (FTL) engine was...) on the first use within an article. Fictional words words should use sparingly (i.e. Spaceship vs. V`bjkèw or Шяڰ☼ﻼ). Use the international system of units [1] and Arabic numerals (1 meter vs. 3 feet or ∴ ker`platch).
Some articles may in fact be stories set in a fictional universe. These can be written in any style the author sees fit.

Submission Rules
- Do not submit copyrighted material.
- Obvious copyright violations will be deleted. We will take copyright violation notifications seriously.
- Keep it original.
- This includes ideas that are specific to an existing book, film, television series. In other words you can submit ideas related to cyborgs but don't copy the Star Trek Borgs. If you would like to discuss copyrighted sci-fi sources please do so in the discussion section.
- Respect the contributions of others.
- If you don't like the way something is going discuss it before erasing other users contributions.
- Brane champions have the final say.
- Brane champions are typically the originator that particular Brane. Please respect their vision. If you don't like the fact that time-travel is forbidden... make your own.
- Interbrane travel is strictly forbidden.
- If you need to use the concept of parallel universes do it with your own Brane (Parallel Branes).
Page Naming rules
- Page titles (including templates, properties, and forms) should start with an uppercase letter (Guidelines vs. guidelines).
- Note the first letter of a page title is the only letter that is not case sensitive. For example [[Guidelines]] and [[guidelines]] link to the same page where as [[Guidelines]] and [[GuideLines]] do not. By convention we capitalize the first letter.
- All characters after the first letter should be lowercase (Sol system vs. Sol System) unless they fall under the following exceptions.
- This rule is more important than the previous. See notes above regarding the case sensitivity of page names.
- Titles are generally nouns or noun phrases.
- Titles should be short — preferably fewer than ten words.
- A, an and the should be avoided as the first word.
- Special characters such as the slash (/), plus sign (+), braces ({ }) and square brackets ([ ]) are avoided; the ampersand (&) is replaced by and, unless it is part of a formal name.
- Pages that represent a person, place, or thing should be simply the name of that person, place, or thing.
- For example Milky Way vs. Milky Way galaxy.
- Proper names should be in Name Case (Milky Way vs. Milky way).
- Use earth/English words rather than fictional words (Spaceship vs. V`bjkèw).
- Use English pronunciation when naming fictional objects (Aidod vs. Шяڰ☼ﻼ).
- Acronyms should always be uppercase (ATM not Atm or atm).
- Categories that represent types of objects should be plural (i.e. Planets vs. Planet).
- Categories that represent a required action should be a singular verb (cleanup).
- Forms should be singular (Planet vs. Planets).
- Variables in templates should be all lower case (location vs. Location).
- Every character of a variable is case sensitive. By convention we use only lowercase letters in template variables.
